Yoga should be about you, and your own practice, not paying yoga teachers for the rest of your life. The Indiv Yoga philosophy is about connecting with your body and mind and tailoring yoga to your individual body, mind and objectives. Therefore I have started releasing FREE short home practice videos with audio instructions, through the Indiv Yoga global newsletter. They will help you develop your own personal yoga practice, and keep it up on days you’re not attending classes. This month there will be a short prenatal yoga sequence video for relieving tension in the back and lower body as well as the 10-for-10 Yoga + Meditation Challenge video!
Developing a home practice however, doesn’t mean it’s not important to take classes with well trained teachers, to review how you’re getting along. But it does mean that you can start practicing your yoga, anywhere at anytime, with the added benefit of learning to put a bit of time aside for yourself, your body and your mind. And the practice is even stronger if done in a familiar setting because lets be honest, it’s A LOT easy to live on smoothies, meditating and doing yoga all day if on a retreat in Asia, not surrounded by mess, memories and attachments.
So the challenge is finding that stillness and focus for a few minutes, in a regular day to day space.
We then start applying the calm, focus and control we’re achieving on the mat, to daily routine life… (and if you’re anything like me then you’ll start doing stretches and poses in queues, airports, museums, simply because you’re body tells you it needs it)! On that note always remember the 3 rules of practice:
1) TAKE IT GRADUALLY
2) LISTEN TO YOUR BODY
3) RETURN FOCUS TO YOUR BREATH
NB! I would just like to apologise for my extremely amateur videos and promise that I’m working on my editing, timing, audio, angles etc skills!! I really dislike cameras and the sound of my own voice, but I am practicing on becoming more comfortable and fluid, so the videos get better for you! Charlie began practicing yoga over 25 years ago and has been teaching for more than 12 years to people of all ages and abilities. She is the lead trainer in the Indiv Yoga RYT200 & RCYT Yoga Alliance Teacher Training Courses, and has certified over 120 students worldwide.
Originally from London and having worked in New York and Lisbon after her Psychology degree, she has since settled with her husband in Switzerland, and dedicated her life to expanding her knowledge of the science of yoga, mindful meditation and better physical and mental health.
Over the years Charlie has worked with some of the most renowned yoga teachers around the world (David Swenson, Shiva Rea, Anne-Marie Newland, Leslie Kaminoff, Sadie Nardini, Sonia Sumar etc) certifying in Hatha, Sivanada, Ashtanga, Childrens and Family Yoga, Yoga for the Special Child, & Inner Engineering with Sadhguru. She has become highly respected for her successful work in yoga therapy, especially for Autism, ADHD and other behavioural and developmental syndromes. She has also talked at some of the biggest corporations in Switzerland and the annual SGIS (Swiss Group of International Schools) Conference on implementing Mindfulness in the work place and the education system.
Charlie holds the highest yoga qualifications as an ERYT500 (Experienced Registered Yoga Teacher), RCYT (Registered Children´s Yoga Teacher), RPYT (Registered Prenatal Yoga Teacher) and YCEP (Yoga Continued Education Provider) with the Yoga Alliance, and has developed Indiv Yoga™ to bring a more physiological, therapeutic and individual approach to yoga.
