Here is some additional information you will need regarding your course. Please read the information carefully and save this email to prevent asking questions that have already been answered closer to the course start date:
TRAVEL
- The date that the course starts is arrival day. Indiv Yoga cannot provide accommodation before this date or after the course is finished
The nearest airport is FARO (45 mins by taxi to Carvoeiro), however many trainees find it cheaper or easier to book flights to Lisbon, and then take a 3 hours direct bus to LAGOA, (not Lagos!!) The bus ticket is approx 20€ and the schedule can be found on www.eva-bus.com. The Lisbon bus terminal for this route is 'Sete Rios' approx 5 minutes by taxi from Lisbon airport. - Arrival - Trainees must plan to arrive at the villa, near Carvoeiro Tennis Club between 3 - 7pm on the course arrival day, for a dinner and debrief from 7.30pm - 9pm. (Please note that we do not have access to the villa before 3pm on the course start date, and must check out by 12pm on the last course day.) You can be picked up from Lagoa bus terminal, which is 10 minutes from the villa, so please plan your travel time accordingly and advise Charlie of your bus arrival time. The last Lagoa bus terminal pick up will be at 7.05pm. If you have arrived in Portugal earlier or will be spending the day in Carvoeiro, you can also be picked up outside the Hotel Carvoeiro Plaza.
- Please make sure you have stipulated your arrival time at Lagoa bus station or Hotel Carvoeiro Sol on your Travel & Diet form, NOT your flight arrival details. Charlie will pick you up at either location between 3-7pm.
- A good taxi company from the airport is Airport Taxi Transfers
- Departure - Before 12pm on the last course day. Free drop off at Lagoa bus terminal or Carvoeiro village.
- Bus timetable from Lisbon (Sete Rios) to Lagoa: click HERE
- Bus timetable from Faro to Lagoa: click HERE (usually only 2 buses a day so better to book a taxi!)
The nearest landmark to the villa is the 'Carvoeiro Tennis Club'. It is a 1 minute walk to the villa, which is difficult to find as it is on a road with no name!
PRE-COURSE HOMEWORK
The following must be done prior to the course commencing:
- Read through ‘Light on Yoga’ by BKS Iyengar (any version). DO NOT attempt any poses or pranayama exercises that have not already been taught to you by a professional yoga teacher. Pay attention to the the first 28 pages of the book and then read through the rest so you have a concept of the various asana and pranayama. This book does not need to be brought on the course
- Evaluate 7 yoga classes, at least 2 of a different ‘style’ of yoga i.e. hatha, sivananda, ashtanga, hot, vinyasa, bikram, gentle, yin, iyengar etc and different teachers. Write a short description of the class, what made it different and what you did/did not like about it. Use these classes to get an idea of different teaching methods and the type of teacher you would like to be. This can be handed in on the first evening of the course, or emailed to Charlie just prior the course starting. If you live in an area where there is not much yoga on offer, then evaluations of classes on YouTube, DVD etc are accepted, however they must be full classes of no less than 60 mins.
